15th Annual UNCF Twin Cities Walk For Education Saturday, September 06, 2008

Description: Calling on All potential; Teams and Individuals; Walkers, Bike Riders, Skaters and Rollerbladers; Experienced and Less Experienced!! The 15th Annual UNCF Walk for Education is a 5K non-competitive walk open to runners, walkers, runners, bicyclists and inline skaters on; Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Lake Nokomis (52nd Street and Cedar Avenue). Saturday, September 6, 2008, Lake Nokomis Park 8:00 AM – Registration Begins; 8:30 AM – Program; 9:00 AM – Walk Kick-Off The UNCF Walk for Education will raise money to support more than 65,000 students from the Twin Cities and across the country who are challenged in finding the necessary financial support to get a college degree. Their higher education will help build a more diverse workforce and strengthen communities across the country that will allow America to compete in the global economy. Young Minnesotans, who graduate from one of the 39 UNCF member institutions, can return to the Twin Cities to pursue advanced degrees at the University of Minnesota with the support of a UNCF scholarship. UNCF graduates are contributing professionally in businesses throughout the region.

Chicago 25th Anniversary of the Annual Walk-Fun Run-Bike Skate-a-thon Saturday, September 13, 2008
Area Office: Chicago Area Office
Description: The 25th Annual Walk-Fun Run-Bike-Skate-a-thon will take place on September 13, 2008 in Grant Park lower Hutchinson Field. Registration for the event starts at 7:00 am and festivities begin promptly at 8:00 am with sponsor and award presentations, guest speakers, aerobic exercises and the start of the Walk immediately following. The fun continues all through the day with food and entertainment. This year's Walk-Fun Run-Bike-Skate-a-thon promises to be our most successful as we strive to reach our goal of raising $300,000! (Children under the age of 14 must be supervised by an adult.)
There are many ways you can participate: Create a team and register for the event; register yourself, friends and family for the event; become a sponsor or make a donation to the event.


Event Agenda:
  • 7:00 am CST - Onsite registration opens
  • 8:00 am CST - Pre-event festivities begin promptly with sponsor presentations, guest speakers, aerobic exercises, and the kick-off immediately following.
  • 9:00 am CST - Race begins
    Race starts and finishes at Grant Park lower Hutchinson Field. Walkers and runners will travel north along lakefront to Randolph and back to Grant Park. Bikers and Skaters will travel south along the lakefront to 67th Street and back to Grant Park.


Route Rules: DURING THE WALK YOU MUST WALK ON THE OFFICIAL ROUTE AND OBEY ALL TRAFFIC SIGNALS. BE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR CARD STAMPED AT ALL CHECK POINTS. DON'T OVERDRESS. WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES AND COTTON OR WOOL SOCKS.

Refreshments: Refreshments will be available at each check point and at the end of the route.

Safety: WHEN YOU FEEL YOU CAN'T WALK ANY FURTHER STOP!!!! TRANSPORTATION WILL BE AVAILABLE TO RETURN YOU TO THE STARTING POINT.
